Central Christian Church celebrates 189 years of ministry in 2017, one of the oldest in our denomination and certainly in the Shenango Valley. We are proud to claim that Walter Scott, leading evangelist for the Christian Church in the mid-1880’s, preached in this church for a short period of time, when it began down on the banks of the Shenango River in Sharon.
We are blessed with a beautiful facility that is handicap accessible. Our church is actively involved in local ministries and outreach programs and is ecumenical in its approach to community needs and fellowship with people of all faith traditions.
We continue to celebrate our fifth year of offering to the community a “Free Breakfast” twice each month, at no cost to the participants. We have a wonderful group of committed folks who make this breakfast possible. Along with the breakfast we have been able to offer a “free coat give-away” the last three years to needy adults and children.
Our worship, while traditional in nature, features a variety of contemporary Christian music as well as more familiar hymns. As with all congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) we celebrate the Lord’s Supper (communion) weekly – which is open to all who confess that Christ is their personal Savior. We have many special programs during the holy seasons of Advent and Lent, and celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on Easter Sunday, when those who have made their Confession of Faith are baptized by immersion.
We are blessed to have as weekly worship leaders – Associate Minister Lewis Voisey, Rev. Don Gaffney, an Ordained Minister in the Christian Church, as well as Mrs. Linda Peoples
Pastor Voisey leads an adult Sunday School class. Mrs. Diane Gaffney, along with the Elders, leads a powerful and significant Service of Prayer and Healing six times a year.
We cordially invite you to come and share with us in witnessing to the power and glory of our Lord each and every week, as we strive to be the “Dynamic Faith Community” called by God.
